Chess is one of
the most popular and oldest board games, on a checkerboard with specifically
constructed pieces of constricting colors, usually white and black. It is
played by two opponents. The goal of the game is to capture the king of your
opponents.
Chess is not a
casual game according to most people on social media. Chess content, unlike
that of other sports, remains essential and fascinating long after the game has
ended and the results are known. Chess fans, like many other hobbies, invest a
large amount of time and energy with no expectation of monetary compensation.

A few weeks ago,
Nine-year-old Kaylee Grace Budhram returned from Kenya where she represented
South Africa at the African Schools Chess Championship. She tied for first
place and will now represent the continent of Africa at the World Schools Chess
Championship in Panama. Kaylee is in grade five at Hopeville Primary School and
started playing chess in grade three.
Chess seems to be the future for our young generation.
“I like playing chess most of the time because
it keeps me away from getting into things like drugs, theft, and other bad
things. Another thing is that I enjoy it because it also helps me to deal with
my problems. It helps me to think,” said Sandile Mathe who is part of a chess
club called The champions in Tembisa.
Most people think
that you have to be smart to play chess, but being intelligent does not
guarantee that you will excel in chess.
“For someone to excel in chess they have to have potential, dedication
and they have to be willing to learn. No matter how clever you are, you will be
awful at chess if you do not practice,” said Karabelo Moletja, who plays chess
as a hobby. Chess board. pic from internet
The future of the chess competition between
humans and computers is pretty clear.
With every day passing the gap between us is going to get bigger.
