For the first time since March 2020, South Africans will soon be able to rid themselves off masks entirely. This was confirmed after the Minister of Health Joe Phaahla released a letter that stated that the country has exited the 5th wave and can consider repealing the Covid-19 regulations.

The letter also urged the nation to abandon its’ conditions for travelers’ admission. Currently, travelers must present a vaccination record, or a Covid-19 result that is negative.
“I am so glad that finally after all these years we will be able to live without wearing masks because I never thought that day would come when we go back to our normal days,” said Karabo Molese who is one of the community members in Soshanguve.
All of it is now lost. Customers will be able to recognize one another in stores, coworkers will smile across cubicles at one another, and airport security will no longer require you to remove your mask to have your passport scanned.
Most people are happy with these changes whereas some are not happy because they still believe that Covid-19 is still here, and they can still get sick. Limits on gatherings have been dropped.

In the letter, the minister of Health also expressed his appreciation for the direction and leadership shown throughout the pandemic. He expressed his gratitude for the support and assistance received from traditional authorities, enterprises, and members of civil society.
“I am not happy at all because I was selling masks and now, I have to close my business and find something else that will help me to sustain my family,” said Sandile Moloi who sells masks for a living.
For those who were selling, asking is going to be a struggle as they now must find another way of making a living.
Although all Covid-19 restrictions have been canceled, this does not mean that Covid-19 is over, and people should not continue looking after themselves.
